Laka + ’Ēkaha (3x3”)

‘Ēkaha also known as bird’s-nest-fern (Asplenium nidus)

Lama - In Kuahu practice, Lama is the physical manifestation (kinolau) of Laka. Laka is the goddess of the forest, hula and inspiration, she inspires creativity, in hula and is the transpiration of the forest.

ʻĒkaha also known as birdʻs-nest-fern, also sometimes called ʻēkaha kuahiwi, mountain ʻēkaha, to distinguish it from the mosses or from ʻēkaha kū moana. ʻĒkaha is considered a parasitic fern by nature, and isn’t found on a hula Kuahu, it thrives by forming large rosettes and in some forests perching on branches of trees. Through the Tiny Kuahu Series platform, I chose this fern because of its “parasitic” characteristics, not in the way it thrives on others, but in the way how one sometimes NEEDS the support of others to thrive.
